MISSOULA, Mont. — Youth Homes raised a record-breaking $100,000 through this year’s Missoula Marathon Run4Kids fundraiser, marking the most money collected in the partnership’s nearly 20-year history.
The annual fundraiser supports Youth Homes programs for children and teens facing abuse, neglect, emotional trauma and substance use issues.
This year, 64 Run4Kids participants exceeded the program’s minimum $500 fundraising goal, while 22 participants raised more than $1,000.
Organizers said every dollar raised this year will support the Birnbaum Youth Home, a new therapeutic shelter for youth ages 10 to 17 experiencing a crisis. The shelter is intended to provide a safe alternative to child protective services offices, emergency rooms or other unstable environments.
Named in honor of former Youth Homes Executive Director Geoff Birnbaum, the facility is expected to open this fall once the organization raises its remaining $452,000 fundraising goal.
